Matteo Salvini – “Maybe finally we have made it, after so many obstacles, attacks, threats and lies”
After days of intensive negotiations and political pressure from different sides the right – wing League party and the anti-establishment Five Star Movement agreed to a compromise and are finally given the green light to form a coalition government. Both parties had come close to forming a government, only for their efforts to be torpedoed by President Sergio Mattarella influenced by international pressure against one future minister.
League leader Mateo Salvini said that his first task, as the new interior minister of Italy, is to restore immigration policy of the country. The new government is likely to clash frequently with the EU, having already struck a deeply adversarial tone with Brussels apparatchiks.
